There must be more than this provincial life

*Would it be polite for me to offer to stamp and address envelopes for the professors writing my letters of rec? Or would that be weird? /clueless It's been a long time since I was so afraid of failure as I am for these applications.

*I have when the people at Starbucks forget to stir my hot chocolate. I mean, seriously? I can understand how memorizing the recipes would be hard, but hot chocolate has to be one of the easiest things they make, and then they leave all the chocolate to sit at the bottom? Stirring before I leave is usually a waste of time, and I don't have a spoon in my room big enough for the Venti cup. ;_;

*The exchange student from my group dropped the class. Sad day. But helpful girl is still there, and it looks like our project will involve vibration of different materials or wind speed of the air through the pipes of an organ, so that should be cool.

*Today I finished Eden of the East. It was quite good; possibly not as good as the hype led me to believe, but definitely one of the better shows to come out recently. The pacing kept it constantly interesting (unlike a lot of anime, just about everything moved the plot forward) and the animation was excellent, although I'm not a fan of the character designs (from the same artist who did Honey and Clover). It had a good blend of action, romance and humor, and more realism than I think I've ever seen in an anime - it's firmly grounded in the real world, with references to both movies and 9/11. The only major complaint I have is that the ending left too much to be solved by the movies, similar to the first FMA anime or Eureka 7 but a little worse. The main reason I'd recommend Eden is because it's so different; a lot of the anime coming out aren't anything new, simply the same thing done well, if that makes sense, so Eden stands out as being extremely unique.

*Last night I went to the campus production of Beauty and the Beast! It wasn't bad - I saw the same play at a community theatre about four years ago and it was definitely better, but it was also four times more expensive, so. The romance parts were okay, but the comedy stood out. Lumiere had the most overdone, hilarious French accent I've ever heard, and something about Cogsworth (the delivery? Accent?) made me think he'd stepped right out of a Monty Python sketch. Gaston was a short Indian guy, which made him look weird next to a six foot something Maurice, but he had an appropriately manly voice and any part that involved him was of course instantly good. The songs were pretty hit-and-miss; the stuff involving massive choreography, like "Be Our Guest" and "Gaston," were amazing, while the solos were often slightly boring. Compared to the other campus productions I've seen, I liked it better than Into the Woods but less than Servant of Two Masters.

*I'm sooo ready for summer. /sigh

Friends Cut

Jan. 22nd, 2011 | 02:44 pm
mood: sadsad

Most of you have nothing to worry; it's just that some journals I've been reading for like, forever, and I don't know if the owners remember I exist. So!

-I'll probably do the cut after this entry, but of course it'll stay public.
-If you've interacted with me at all in recent memory, or if we used to talk and you've been bad at updating lately, you're perfectly safe.
-I might delete old journals if they didn't have many entries to start with. In other words, dead ones that are very unlikely to come back.
-I don't dislike any of you; like I said, I just don't want to spend any more time on people who never spend it on me, at least as far as I can tell. If you'd like to stay, comment (public) or send me a PM and I'll re-add you, hopefully no hard feelings.
-Most of you are awesome &hearts

Fic: Spider's Thread

Jan. 3rd, 2011 | 09:30 pm

While I was writing this, I was all excited to be writing fanfic again and for a new fandom at that. Then I finished it and saw the word count. orz

Fandom: Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler
Characters: Sebastian, Ciel
Rating/Warnings: About as mild as this fandom gets, but spoilers for the whole series
Word Count: 428
Summary: A short conversation in a partial AU, ignoring season 2 except for a single plot point.
Notes: I'm not sure if this is worth posting to a comm (or makes sense - honestly, this show), so comments and critique would be extremely appreciated!

Eternity is a long time to spend in a stomach.Collapse )

Forgot a few things

music: The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun / The Inner Light (Transition) (Love Version) | Powered by Last.fm

*Panty and Stocking is alright. I don't think it's bad and I'll keep watching it, but I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's amazing.

*Sarah is finished with all the KH games except 356/whatever it was Days, and it's pretty short. She's almost 13 so I figure she's old enough to play FF. But which one should I tell her to play??? XII and VIII are my favorites, but XII is a little sepia more adult and she's impatient enough that I don't know how she'd do with PS1 graphics or loading times. (The first one I played was Tactics, and the triangle button on the emulator wouldn't work so I effectively played a squire-only challenge at 11 and half. Didn't make it past the first chapter, but still, good for teaching anger management.) That only leaves X, and it was kind of my least favorite of the 3-D games. I'm tempted to say VII because it's the only one I have the strategy guide for and she doesn't know yet that Aeris dies, but VII is also totally fucking insane, even compared to time compression or imaginary people. Your opinions? I have all but XI and XIII.

Or I could just let her borrow Chrono Trigger. Hmm...

music: Bones ~ The Killers

This is a quick entry to let you guys know that I'm still here, and I'm reading my f-list, but I have no idea when I'll do a real post. The amount of homework I'm getting is insane, plus I'm pretty busy with Amnesty. But it's sure to let up some time.

...Maybe.

Internet problems

mood: disappointeddisappointed

Been having a lot of problems with the Internet since yesterday(barely able to post this), and the tech support guy my mom called said that we need a new modem and it'll get here on Tuesday. So I won't be posting or replying much until then. :/

Fic: Eh oh, Doctor!

Jul. 6th, 2010 | 01:20 pm
mood: sillysilly

Obviously, feel free to ignore this if you aren't interested, f-list. (Alternatively, if you are, please tell me what you think - I'm not certain of this fic at all, so I'd like to know if it's comm-worthy or if I need to delete it and never look back.) Personal entry later.

Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Ten, Simm!Master, brief appearance of season 2 Torchwood
Rating: T for crack concept, phone call levels of innuendo, arguably a crossover?
Notes: I started this directly after the Christmas finale and let it sit in a folder for months, so now everyone's excited about Eleven. Oh, well. Instead of trying too hard to make it sound British, I tried to make it sound not too American; let me know if it worked(probably not). Comments and critiques are very appreciated.
Word Count 2, 772

I'm back

Jun. 7th, 2010 | 06:14 pm

So, the beach was a lot of fun! I was planning to get a bunch of stuff done, but this morning we found our cat's kittens, and I basically spent all morning taking care of that. In the next couple of days I'll post a real entry with tons of pictures of everything. Until then, I'm going to enjoy some of the stuff I missed, like trees and good music, and read my huge friends' page backlog. So, um, sorry for the pointlessness, haha.

damned by the existential moment where

music: You Don't Know Me ~ Ben Folds

*Sooo glad it's summer vacation. I was able to make a 90 on my Physics final, but the class must've done pretty badly - it was averaged with a free 100, so someone with a 0 would have had an instant 50. I found out I forgot a point and only needed a 99 on the Com final, but (OF COURSE) after studying all day I only made a 98. An 84.44 for my final grade. Then I went to the professor and basically said "i'monly6onehundredthsofonepercentagepointawaypleasewon'tyoupleaaaassseeeeegivemeanA" and then she gave me like four points so now I probably have a 91. Got a B in Calc 2, which sucks because it's five credits, but a 3.7 is probably the average for all the stuff I'll be applying for.

*I've started the job search, and I've turned in two applications out of about five. I've decided to write on them that I can start on the 7th, but in person I'll explain that I can work from now until the end of May if they need me. They're only for places like dollar and grocery stores, but there's not a lot of options in a town so small it doesn't have elevators.

*Saw Iron Man 2! I was expecting it to be kind of mediocre because everyone said it wasn't as good as the original, but it was still quite good. If nothing else, I'm excited for the third movie and The Avengers. Has anyone noticed that all superhero movie sequels seem to feel the need to have half a dozen conflicts? I think The Dark Knight is the only one that has benefited from more than one villain.

*My sister Sarah did great at her concert! I was way too shy to be in color guard when I was her age. It was combined with the art show, and one of the winning pictures was a fanart of the Weeping Angels. WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THIS?! D:

*I posted at an addme community not long ago, so... uhh... welcome new friends! Feel free to ask me any questions or whatever.
